Unmatched is an asymmetric miniature fighting game where 2-4 players control unique heroes, each with specialized card decks reflecting their legendary abilities. Players use tactical movement and card-based combat mechanics to battle opponents. Victory comes through strategic positioning and clever card timing rather than luck. This volume includes Yennenga, Achilles, Sun Wukong, and Bloody Mary as playable characters.

Get Ready

Setup the game with these step-by-step instructions before diving into your turn.

Choose battlefield
Place the selected battlefield board on the table

Select heroes
Each player chooses a hero and takes their corresponding action cards, character card, hero miniature, sidekick tokens (if any), health dials, and any other components

Set starting health
Each player sets their hero's starting health on the matching health dials as shown on the character cards

Prepare decks
Each player shuffles their action cards to form a single deck and places it face down
5
Draw starting hand
Each player draws 5 cards as their starting hand
6
Place first hero
The younger player places their hero in the 1 space on the battlefield
7
Place second hero
The older player places their hero in the 2 space on the battlefield, then places their sidekicks following the same zone rules
8
Determine first player
The younger player takes the first turn

On Your Turn

What you can do during your turn.

1
Take two actions
You must take exactly 2 actions per turn; you cannot skip an action and may choose the same action twice
2
Maneuver action
Draw the top card of your deck, then you may move your fighters
3
Scheme action
Play a scheme card from your hand face up and declare which of your fighters is playing it
4
Attack action
Declare which of your fighters is attacking and choose a valid target
5
Exhaustion penalty
When your deck is empty and you need to draw, each of your fighters takes 2 damage instead
6
Hand limit
At the end of your turn, discard down to 7 cards if you have more

Winning

How to claim victory.

1
Defeat opponent's hero
The game ends immediately when your opponent's hero is reduced to zero health and you win
2
Sidekick defeat
When a sidekick is reduced to zero health, remove their token from the battlefield; this does not end the game
3
Hero defeat loses
If your hero is defeated, you immediately lose the game
4
Team game victory
In team play, both opposing heroes must be defeated for your team to win
5
Free-for-all victory
In 3-4 player games, the last player whose hero is not defeated wins
