In Prêt-à-Porter, players manage competing fashion companies in a cutthroat industry. Build your business by hiring employees, opening facilities, and signing contracts to enhance capabilities. Each quarter, showcase clothing collections at fashion shows where judges award stars across four categories. Victory goes to whoever accumulates the most stars, generating revenue while denying opponents success in this ruthless economic strategy game.

Get Ready

Setup the game with these step-by-step instructions before diving into your turn.

Place the game board
Put the board in the center of the table (turn order tokens and track not used in standard game)

Prepare Contract cards
Find "Last Quarter" Contract cards (X, XI, XII on backs) and set aside until last 3 rounds

Prepare Building cards
Repeat the same process as Contracts but place at location 3

Prepare Employee cards
Repeat the same process as Contracts but place at location 4

Distribute player components
Each player takes $40 cash, 1 player board, 3 Action pawns, 1 VP marker (place on space 0), and 2 Upkeep markers (place -1 marker at -3 space, set -10 marker aside)

Draw Clothing Type tile
Each player randomly draws 1 tile, takes the 2 matching starting Design cards shown on the back, and places tile on their player board

Set up Design deck
Shuffle remaining Design cards, place face-down at location 5, flip 4 cards into display row

Place Calendar marker
Put marker at the top of the Calendar track at space 1 (I)

Set up Fashion show tiles
Randomly place 4 "last quarter" tiles (marked X, XI, XII) face-up on bottom 4 spaces near Calendar track, then place remaining 6 tiles face-up on spaces above

Place tokens at location 9
Add 2 Q tokens, 1 PR token, 1 T token, and $5

Create supply
Place all remaining components near the board (components are unlimited)

Choose first player
Randomly select and give them the 1st player marker

On Your Turn

What you can do during your turn.

Understand the game flow
Game plays over 12 rounds (1 year) with every 3 rounds forming a Quarter

Follow Quarter pattern
Each Quarter consists of: Working Round, Working Round, Exhibition Round

Pay Upkeep every round
At end of every round (Working or Exhibition), pay Upkeep costs

Reseed the board
At beginning of each Working round (except round 1), refill Contracts, Buildings, Employees, and Designs displays

Replace location 9 tokens
Check and replace any missing tokens from last round

Pass first player marker
Give marker to player on left (skip for round 1)

Place Action pawns
Starting with 1st player clockwise, each player places 1 pawn onto an open, left-most or top-most action space until all players have placed all 3 pawns

Multiple pawns allowed
You can place more than 1 pawn at a location

Don't resolve immediately
Wait until Action Phase to resolve placements

Resolve in order
Starting at Location 1, resolve each pawn left to right, top to bottom

Announce all locations
Even empty locations, as some cards may trigger

Card activation timing
Cards that trigger without pawns activate first (in turn order), then pawns resolve

Forfeit allowed
Players may choose not to take an action

Choose one contract from display (not deck) and place left of player board; activates immediately for limited time

Choose one building from display, pay its cost, adjust upkeep, place right of player board; allows housing 1 extra employee

Choose one employee from display, adjust upkeep, place over starting employee slot or house with a building

Take 1 Design card from display row or top of deck; place above player board

Local Materials (Location 6)
Buy unlimited quantity of 1 color material at listed cost; gain 1 Q token total

Warehouse Materials (Location 7)
Buy only 1 of each color but multiple colors allowed; gain 2 Q tokens total

Import Materials (Location 8)
Buy unlimited quantity of 1 color material; gain 3 Q tokens total

Last Minute Preparations (Location 9)
Take 1 item (QQ, PR, T, or $5); items not replaced until next round

Train or Upgrade
In turn order, each player may train one Employee and/or upgrade one Building

Pay and flip
Pay cost shown at bottom of card and flip it over; adjust Upkeep track

One upgrade limit
Cards can only be upgraded once during the game

All players pay Upkeep costs to bank as shown on their track

If unable to pay, take $20 Loan card with money and adjust Upkeep immediately

Exchange Prestige tokens

In turn order, declare your Collection (group of same-Style Design cards with required materials)

Collect bonuses shown above sale price on Collection cards

Earn Trend tokens
Gain 1 T token for each Collection card matching your Clothing Type tile

Evaluate Fashion tiles
Check current Exhibition's Fashion show tiles for Prestige awards

Q (quality tokens), T (trend tokens), PR (public relation tiles), X2 (most Collection cards)

Require minimum participation
Must have at least 1 item in a category to earn Prestige

Award Prestige by player count:

Handle ties
2 players tied push down 1 place; 3+ players tied push down 2 places (earning nothing)

Calculate Prestige income
Multiply current Prestige by number of Collection cards to earn that amount in cash

Collect card values
Earn money printed on bottom left of each Collection card (don't retake bonuses)

Discard Collection
Remove Collection cards and materials used

Clear tokens
Discard all Q, T, and PR tokens; keep money and Prestige

Pay company Upkeep
Same as Working Round upkeep

Repay Credit and Loans
Pay amount shown on bottom right of cards and return them

Take emergency loans
If unable to repay, take loan for $18 (not $20) and adjust Upkeep

Flip/discard Contracts
Flip newly obtained Contracts; discard previously flipped ones

When entering round X, replace cards at locations 2, 3, 4 with set-aside X, XI, XII cards

Winning

How to claim victory.

Final Prestige exchange
Before scoring, perform one final Prestige token exchange using same ratio as throughout game

Check for bankruptcy
Any player with unpaid Loans they cannot pay off is bankrupt and cannot win

Calculate final score
Add VP from the board track to cash value for total score
4
Determine winner
Player with most points wins
5
Break ties
Player with more points from the board track wins ties
