How to Play

Galaxy Trucker

2-4 players 60-60 min 7.3 Board Game Geek Rating

Players frantically construct spaceships from sewer pipe components in real-time, then navigate dangerous space routes. During timed building phases, grab face-down tiles representing engines, weapons, and cargo holds, connecting them properly. Flight phases involve encountering pirates, meteors, and trading opportunities that can damage ships or provide rewards. Victory goes to whoever accumulates the most credits after three rounds.

Get Ready

Setup the game with these step-by-step instructions before diving into your turn.

1
Create card piles
Before each round, create 4 piles of cards (3 that can be checked, 1 that cannot)
2
Staff the pilot cabin
The pilot (starting/central) cabin always houses 2 regular crew, never aliens
3
Limit alien placement
Each player can only have 1 alien of each type in their ship
4
Position aliens correctly
Aliens may be placed on cabins with an adjacent, matching life support system

On Your Turn

What you can do during your turn.

1
Use one hand only
You may only use one hand while building
2
Flip new pieces properly
To flip a new piece, you must bring it toward you first (hovered over your ship)
3
Lock previous placements
Once you touch a new piece, your previous piece placement can't be undone
4
Place orthogonally
New pieces must be placed orthogonal to existing pieces
5
Set components aside
You can set max 2 components aside at a time
6
Check card piles
Once you've built at least 1 piece, you may check the 3 piles one at a time
7
Handle rule breaks
If you break a rule while building, don't fix it until the end of the building phase
8
Fix illegal ships mid-flight
If your ship is discovered to be illegally built during flight, remove components and also lose 1 credit
9
Start the timer
The first person to finish building simply flips over the timer once
10
Complete your ship
Everyone else has 90 seconds to finish
11
Watch for warning
When the sand reaches the cone of the timer, there are 30 seconds left
12
Orient cannons
Cannons can point down/left/right and contribute 1/2 point of strength
13
Clear cannon path
Cannons cannot have another piece directly in front of them
14
Orient engines
Engines must point down
15
Clear engine path
Engines cannot have another piece directly behind them
16
Lead player acts first
The leading player on the flight board always takes their actions first
17
Trailing player adjusts first
When adjusting flight days after landing on planets, the trailing player goes first
18
Break ties against leader
When evaluating which player has the fewest of something, ties are broken by the leading player (leader suffers the penalty)
19
Defend against large meteors
Large meteors can be shot at; every sideways cannon defends its own row and each adjacent row
20
Accept small meteor hits
Small meteors cannot be shot at; adjacent sideways cannons will not protect you from side impacts
21
Defeat enemies
If you exceed enemy cannon value, you beat them; other players won't face them
22
Tie with enemies
If you match their cannon value, they pass you by and face the next player
23
Lose to enemies
If you cannot match or beat their cannon value, you suffer the penalty
