Players collaborate to deduce a mystery word through yes/no questions within a time limit. A hidden werewolf sabotages progress while knowing the answer, and a helpful Seer assists without revealing their identity. Victory comes from either guessing correctly or exposing the werewolf, though werewolves can win by identifying the Seer.

Setup the game with these step-by-step instructions before diving into your turn.

Download the app
Install the Werewords app on your iOS or Android device from gokids.com.tw

Select cards for player count
For 4-6 players, use the Mayor, Seer, one Werewolf, and add Villager cards so total cards equal players plus one; for 7-10 players, use two Werewolf cards

Organize the tokens
Place Yes/No (✓/✗) tokens in the large compartment of the box, Maybe (?) tokens in the small compartment, and store Correct (★), Close (!) and Way Off (⊘) tokens in the plastic insert

Deal cards face-down
After shuffling, deal one card face-down to each player with one card remaining in the center; secretly look at your card

Determine the Mayor
The player who receives the Mayor card reveals it, takes the center card as their secret role, and places the token box in front of them

Position the device
Place the mobile device where the Mayor can operate it but all players can see and hear it
7
Configure the app
Select which roles to use in the app, adjust player count, set difficulty level, and choose game timer length (default 4 minutes)

On Your Turn

What you can do during your turn.

Mayor wakes first
The Mayor taps start, opens eyes, selects their secret role (Villager, Werewolf, or Seer), then chooses a Magic Word they think players can guess

Mayor confirms word
The Magic Word displays again for confirmation, then the Mayor closes their eyes
3
Seer wakes
The Seer opens eyes, views the Magic Word, then closes eyes when prompted
4
Werewolf wakes
The Werewolf opens eyes, views the Magic Word for a few seconds, then closes eyes; with two Werewolves, they acknowledge each other first

Begin questioning
When the timer starts, all players try to discover the Magic Word by asking the Mayor yes-or-no questions

Mayor responds with tokens
The Mayor cannot speak or point; they can only give Yes (✓), No (✗), Maybe (?), or Close (!) tokens to indicate answers

Use Way Off token
If players are guessing too far from the answer, the Mayor places the Way Off (⊘) token in the center to redirect them

Guess the exact word
To correctly guess, players must state the complete Magic Word directly (e.g., "Is the Magic Word 'frog'?"); indirect guesses don't count
9
End when tokens run out
If the last Yes/No token is used, the day phase ends immediately and the Mayor taps "Tokens Used Up" in the app
10
Discuss freely
Players may talk amongst themselves and discuss before asking the Mayor questions; only one question at a time to the Mayor

Winning

How to claim victory.

1
Award the Correct token
The Mayor taps the yellow Correct (★) button and gives the Correct token to the player who guessed correctly

Werewolf reveals
Only the Werewolf reveals their card; they have 15 seconds to identify the Seer
3
Werewolf identifies Seer
If the Werewolf correctly points to the Seer, the Werewolf team wins and Village team loses
4
Werewolf fails
If the Werewolf points to someone who is not the Seer, the Village team wins
5
Multiple Werewolves
Each Werewolf may point to a different player; if any pointed player is the Seer, Werewolves win
6
Discussion phase begins
Players have one minute to discuss and identify the Werewolf; players (including Mayor) may claim any role but cannot reveal cards
7
Vote simultaneously
When time expires, all players point to who they think is the Werewolf (you cannot point to yourself)
8
Majority identifies Werewolf
If the player with the most votes is a Werewolf, the Village team wins
9
Majority wrong
If the player with the most votes is not a Werewolf, the Werewolf team wins
10
Tied votes
All tied players reveal their cards; if any is a Werewolf, Village wins; if everyone gets one vote each, Werewolves win
11
Werewolf Mayor
Wants players to fail; may choose harder words and give misleading tokens to prevent correct guesses
12
Seer Mayor
Has no other Seer helping; may choose easier words but risks Werewolf guessing they are the Seer
