How to Play

Taluva

2-4 players 45-45 min 7.1 Board Game Geek Rating

Players develop a volcanic South Sea island by placing hexagonal tiles containing volcanoes and terrain. Each turn involves either expanding the island at sea level or stacking tiles to create elevation, potentially destroying settlements. After tile placement, players build huts, temples, or towers following specific terrain and height requirements. Victory comes from placing the most temples or depleting two building types completely.

On Your Turn

What you can do during your turn.

1
Draw and place a volcano tile
Take 1 tile from the face-down pile and add it to the landscape
2
Follow eruption restrictions
When placing on top of existing tiles, observe these rules:
3
Build after tile placement
Place 1 or more building pieces using one of the following options on empty non-volcano hexes
4
Merge settlements
You may build into a space that merges 2 settlements if the space meets requirements for at least 1 Settlement; merged Settlements may have multiple Towers or Temples
5
Face elimination
If you cannot build, you are eliminated from the game; leave your buildings on the board and skip future turns

Winning

How to claim victory.

1
Win by building completion
If a player places all their buildings of 2 types (any combination of Temples, Towers, or Huts), they immediately win the game
2
End by tile depletion
Otherwise, the game ends when all volcano tiles have been placed
3
Determine winner by temples
The player with the most Temples placed wins
4
Break ties with towers
If tied on Temples, the player with the most Towers placed wins
5
Break further ties with huts
If still tied, the player with the most Huts built (including those removed to the box) wins
6
Eliminated players cannot win
An eliminated player is ineligible to win the game regardless of their building counts
