Star Wars: The Deckbuilding Game

2-2 players 30-90 min 7.8 Board Game Geek Rating

Two players battle as the Galactic Empire versus Rebel Alliance in this head-to-head deckbuilding game. Starting with unique ten-card decks, players acquire new cards from a shared galaxy row while attacking opponent cards for rewards. Victory comes from destroying three enemy bases, each offering special defensive abilities when replaced from base decks.

Get Ready

Setup the game with these step-by-step instructions before diving into your turn.

Obtain required rulesets
You will need AzureDeath's Original & Clone Wars rule sets as the foundation for this variant

Select any faction
This homogenized AI board is meant to be played by any Faction

Choose base rule option
Select either Base Rule A (use standard Base ability if possible, otherwise just use hit points) or Base Rule B (draw another Base card until you find one with a playable ability)

Select leader position
At the start of the game, choose where to place the purple cube on the CS Space of the AI Progress Track:

Consider difficulty adjustments
Pair up two powerful foes or start with more Shuttles for harder games, or pair two slightly less powerful adversaries for balanced play

On Your Turn

What you can do during your turn.

Apply the Cap Rule
The AI Resource Pool is capped at 10 resources maximum

Use all 10 Bases
All 10 Bases can be used for any faction regardless of alignment

Resolve Base abilities
Use the standard Base ability if possible; if the base ability can't be played, nothing happens—just play the base with its hit points

Calculate track movement using 123 Rule
The track always moves at least 1 space, plus the number leftover from the Purchase phase and Sabotage/Bounty Hunting phase, to a maximum of 3 total spaces

Handle discard abilities
Follow the DISCARD ABILITIES section as indicated in AzureDeath's Original solo rules

Reference the Progress Track key
Use these symbols when reading the track:

Mark Leader emergence
L1, L2 or L3 indicates where to place a purple cube to mark when the Leader comes out

Follow Clone Wars victory conditions
The Clone Wars ruleset victory conditions apply with the exceptions noted in the GI John Variant Rules

Defeat the AI Leader
Progress through the track and defeat the Leader when they emerge at the marked L1, L2, or L3 position based on your setup selection
