Dominion: Intrigue

Players begin with identical small card decks and purchase new cards from a central market to customize their decks during play. Through strategic deck-building and card selection, players optimize their hands to accumulate the most victory points by game's end.

Get Ready

Setup the game with these step-by-step instructions before diving into your turn.

Determine starting player
Randomly choose for the first game; in subsequent games, the player to the left of the previous winner starts

Distribute starting decks
Each player takes 7 Copper cards and 3 Estate cards

Prepare player decks
Each player shuffles their 10 cards and places them face-down as their Deck

Draw starting hands
Each player draws 5 cards from their Deck

Place Treasure cards
Put remaining Copper cards and all Silver and Gold cards in face-up piles in the Supply

Set up Victory cards for 3-4 players
Place 12 each of Estate, Duchy, and Province cards in the Supply
7
Set up Victory cards for 2 players
Place only 8 of each Victory card type in the Supply

Place Curse cards
Use 10 Curses for 2 players, 20 for 3 players, or 30 for 4 players

Select Kingdom cards
Choose 10 Kingdom card types and place 10 of each in face-up piles

Position Trash pile card
Place near the Supply to mark the Trash pile

Use Randomizer cards
Optionally place face-down at bottom of piles to identify when empty

On Your Turn

What you can do during your turn.

Follow three phases in order
Complete Action phase, then Buy phase, then Clean-up phase

Play one Action card
Take an Action card from hand, place face-up in play area, and follow its instructions top to bottom
3
Resolve +X Actions
Gain additional Actions to play during this phase (does not mean play immediately)
4
Resolve +X Cards
Immediately draw that many cards from your Deck
5
Resolve +X Coins
Gain that many coins to spend during Buy phase (no Treasure cards taken)
6
Resolve +1 Buy
Gain ability to buy an additional card during Buy phase
7
Discard cards
Place specified cards face-up on your Discard pile
8
Trash cards
Place specified cards in the Trash pile (not your Discard pile)
9
Gain cards
Take specified cards from Supply and place in your Discard pile
10
Reveal cards
Show cards to all players, then return to original location

Pass cards
Place card face-down between you and receiving player; they add it to their hand

Complete partial instructions
If unable to fully execute a card, do as much as possible

Play Treasure cards
Place Treasure cards from hand into play area

Calculate total coins
Add coins from Treasure cards played plus coins from Action cards this turn

Purchase one card
Take any card from Supply costing equal to or less than your coins and place in Discard pile
16
Use additional Buys
If you have +Buy, you may purchase additional cards with remaining coins

Skip buying
You are not required to use any or all of your Buys

Discard played cards
Place all cards from play area onto your Discard pile

Discard remaining hand
Place any cards still in hand onto your Discard pile
20
Draw new hand
Draw 5 cards from your Deck

Shuffle when needed
If Deck is empty or has insufficient cards, shuffle Discard pile to form new Deck, then continue drawing

Winning

How to claim victory.

Trigger game end condition one
The game ends when the Province pile is empty

Trigger game end condition two
The game ends when any 3 Supply piles are empty

Complete the turn
Finish the current player's turn before ending
4
Count victory points
Each player totals victory points from all cards in their Deck, Discard pile, and hand
5
Determine the winner
The player with the most victory points wins
6
Break ties by turns
If tied, the player with fewer turns wins
7
Share victory if still tied
Players with same score and same number of turns share the victory
