Dixit

3-6 players 30-30 min 7.2 Board Game Geek Rating

Players take turns as storyteller, giving cryptic clues about abstract artwork from their hand. Others submit matching cards from their collection, then everyone votes on which was the original. Scoring rewards balanced clues—too obvious or obscure earns zero points. Players gain points for correct guesses and votes their submissions receive. First to thirty points wins.

On Your Turn

What you can do during your turn.

1
Story teller gives clue
The active player (story teller, marked with red dot) provides a verbal association or clue for one of their cards
2
Submit cards
All other players select a card from their hand that matches the clue and submit it face-down
3
Reveal and vote
Shuffle submitted cards together with the story teller's card, reveal them, and all non-storyteller players vote on which card they believe belongs to the story teller
4
Score for balanced clues
If some (but not all) players guess correctly, the story teller earns 3 points and each correct guesser earns 3 points
5
Penalize too easy clues
If everyone guesses correctly, the story teller earns 0 points and all other players earn 2 points each
6
Penalize too hard clues
If nobody guesses correctly, the story teller earns 0 points and all other players earn 2 points each
7
Award bonus points
Players whose submitted cards received votes earn +1 point per vote received (maximum 3 bonus points in standard play, maximum 5 points in 3-player variant)
8
Apply lonely vote rule (6-12 players)
A single vote on a card awards +3 points to that card's owner
9
Apply veto rule (6-12 players)
A blocking vote can cancel points; story teller may use their veto to block
10
Alternative rule option
Story teller announces association before looking at their cards, then all players (including story teller) play a matching card
