Clank! In! Space!: A Deck-Building Adventure

Players infiltrate the tyrant Lord Eradikus's flagship to steal precious artifacts using deck-building mechanics. Cards enable movement, combat, and acquisitions while generating "clank" noise that attracts deadly attention. Success requires carefully managing sound levels while racing to hack the command module and escape with loot before the increasingly enraged villain destroys you.

Get Ready

Setup the game with these step-by-step instructions before diving into your turn.

1
Assemble the spaceship board
Connect the 7 game board pieces in the pattern shown, with Cargo Bay, Command, and Corridor modules in fixed positions and three interchangeable modules placed in any configuration

Choose player components
Each player selects a pawn color and takes 30 Clank! cubes and 2 Data cubes of matching color, placing them in a personal supply

Distribute starting decks
Each player receives a 10-card starting deck containing 6 Hacks, 2 Stumbles, 1 Access, and 1 Scramble

Place Artifacts
Put the six Artifacts (valued 5-30) face up on corresponding numbered spaces in the Command module

Distribute Major Secrets
Shuffle Major Secrets face down and place one randomly on each Major Secret space

Distribute Minor Secrets
Shuffle Minor Secrets face down and place two randomly on each Minor Secret space

Set up the Market Board
Place the Market Board beside the spaceship with two each of Contraband, Master Key, Med Kit, and TelePass (only one of each for 2 players)

Position Escape Pods
Place four Escape Pod tokens in the Cargo Bay module

Create the Bank
Set up the Bank with five Power Crystals, one Command Code token per player, and all Credit tokens

Prepare the Rage Track
Place one Bounty Hunter cube on each of the first two red zone spaces, two on the plaid space, and the Blockade token on the last red zone space

Position Boss Marker
Place the Boss Marker on the space matching player count (first space for 4 players)

Fill the Boss Bag
Place all 24 black boss cubes in the Boss Bag

Set up Reserve cards
Place G0/B-L1N enemy card and piles of FAZR, Boldly Go, and Memory Core cards next to the board

Deal Adventure Row
Shuffle Adventure Deck and deal six cards face up, replacing any with Boss Attack symbols until none show

Position player pawns
Each player places their pawn on the starting space in Cargo Bay, shuffles their deck, and draws five cards
16
Determine first player
The sneakiest player goes first; first player places 3 Clank! cubes, second places 2, third places 1, fourth places 0

On Your Turn

What you can do during your turn.

1
Play all cards from hand
Play all five cards in any order, generating Skill, Swords, and Boots resources
2
Use faction bonuses
When playing a card with faction text (Outlaw, Resistance, or Science), activate bonus abilities by playing another card of that faction during your turn
3
Acquire new cards
Spend Skill to purchase cards with blue banners from the Adventure Row or yellow banners from the Reserve, placing acquired cards in your discard pile
4
Defeat enemies
Spend Swords equal to the enemy's cost to defeat red banner cards in the Adventure Row, gaining the DEFEAT reward and discarding the enemy to the Adventure discard pile
5
Fight G0/B-L1N repeatedly
Defeat the G0/B-L1N in Reserve multiple times per turn for its reward each time without discarding it
6
Move through the spaceship
Spend one Boot to move along a path to an adjacent space
7
Collect Secret tokens
When first entering a space with Secret tokens, take one without looking, then reveal it
8
Stop at security checkpoints
When entering a checkpoint, you cannot use any more Boots this turn
9
Use Hyperlifts
Move from any Hyperlift space to any other Hyperlift space without Boots, but cannot use Boots afterward this turn
10
Use Telepads
With a TelePass, move from any Telepad space to any other Telepad space without Boots, but cannot use Boots afterward this turn
11
Buy from the Market
While in a Market space, spend 7 Credits to purchase one item of each type
12
Hack Data Ports
Place one of your two Data cubes on a data port to gain the shown bonus/penalty; second cube must be in a different module
13
Complete command code
After placing both Data cubes in different modules, take a Command Code token and advance the Boss Marker one space
14
Enter Command module
Only enter the Command module after obtaining a Command Code token
15
Steal an Artifact
Pick up an Artifact token from your space (one maximum), then advance the Boss Marker one space
16
Generate Clank!
When cards cause Clank!, add that many cubes from your personal supply to the Clank! area
17
Remove Clank!
When gaining negative Clank!, remove cubes from the Clank! area or offset future Clank! this turn
18
Gain Credits
Take Credit tokens from the Bank when earned from cards or spaces
19
End your turn
Place all played cards in your discard pile, then draw five new cards
20
Refill Adventure Row
Fill empty Adventure Row spaces from the Adventure Deck at turn's end

Trigger Boss Attack
If any newly revealed cards show the Boss Attack symbol, Lord Eradikus attacks once

Track damage on Health Meter
Place damage cubes on your Health Meter starting from the left

Heal damage
When healing, return cubes from Health Meter to personal supply

Advance Boss Marker
Move up one space when completing command codes, taking Artifacts, or discovering Archives
25
Dispatch Bounty Hunters
When Boss Marker reaches red cube spaces, place those cubes in Clank! area; red cubes damage all players and return to Clank! area

Deploy Blockade
When Boss Marker reaches the last red zone space, place Blockade token to sever Cargo Bay Hyperlift connection
27
Teleport with cards
Use teleport abilities to move to adjacent spaces without Boots, fighting enemies, or respecting locks/arrows

Winning

How to claim victory.

1
Escape via escape pod
Reach an escape pod in Cargo Bay with an Artifact to leave safely and gain 20 bonus points, removing your pawn and all your Clank! from the game
2
Get knocked out in Cargo Bay
If your Health Meter fills completely while in Cargo Bay with an Artifact, allies rescue you and you score points
3
Lose by knockout elsewhere
If knocked out without an Artifact or outside Cargo Bay, you lose and cannot score
4
Continue after escaping/knockout
Instead of normal turns, place all Clank! cubes in Boss Bag and draw exactly four cubes (six in 2-player games)
5
End the game
The game ends when all players have escaped or been knocked out
6
Calculate final score
Add points from your Artifact value, total Credits, other token points, and card values (shown in top right corner)
7
Determine the winner
The player with the most points wins and becomes Greatest Thief in the Galaxy
8
Break ties
The tied player with the most valuable Artifact wins
