Cascadia

1-4 players 30-45 min 7.9 Board Game Geek Rating

Players draft paired habitat tiles and wildlife tokens to build Pacific Northwest ecosystems. Each turn, select a tile-token combination, place the hexagonal habitat tile adjacent to existing ones, and position the wildlife token appropriately. Victory comes from creating large connected habitat areas while arranging animals according to randomized scoring objectives for each species type.

Get Ready

Setup the game with these step-by-step instructions before diving into your turn.

Stack the tiles
At 1/2/3/4 players, stack face-down (or in a bag) 42/43/63/83 tiles; the remaining tiles are not used

Select scoring cards
Randomly select 1 Wildlife Scoring Card for each type of Wildlife and place it on the table

Create the display
Draw 4 tiles and place them in a line, then draw 4 tokens and randomly place 1 below each tile

Prepare nature tokens
Place a supply of Nature Tokens within reach of all players
5
Distribute starter tiles
Each player takes a Starter Habitat Tile

On Your Turn

What you can do during your turn.

Perform refresh check
Before selecting, check the token display for duplicates

Take a tile and token
Select 1 tile and take the token directly below it

Place your tile
Position the tile edge-adjacent to any tile in your display
4
Place or discard your token
Place the token on any tile with matching wildlife, or discard it
5
Refresh the display
Draw a new token and tile to replace those taken

Winning

How to claim victory.

1
End the game
The game ends when there are no tiles left to refresh the display (each player will have placed 20 tiles)

Score wildlife cards
Calculate points as per each Wildlife Card description

Score habitat groups
For each habitat type, score 1 point for each tile in your largest contiguous group
4
Score habitat majorities
For each habitat type, compare largest groups between players
5
Score remaining nature tokens
Earn 1 point per remaining Nature Token
6
Determine the winner
The player with the highest total score wins
