Ticket to Ride: Nordic Countries

Players journey across Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden, collecting train cards to connect cities listed on their destination tickets. This 2-3 player version features tunnels and ferry routes requiring special locomotive cards. Victory comes from completing routes and fulfilling ticket objectives, with increased emphasis on strategic blocking.

Get Ready

Setup the game with these step-by-step instructions before diving into your turn.

Place the board

Put the game board and the Globetrotter card on the table

Distribute train cars

Give each player 40 train cars of one color and place the matching score marker at the start of the score track

Prepare the train deck

Shuffle the train cards (12 each of 8 colors plus 14 locomotives)

Deal starting train cards

Deal each player 4 cards facedown

Create the card display

Deal 5 train cards face-up in a row by the board and stack the rest facedown nearby

Prepare destination tickets

Shuffle the destination ticket cards and deal each player 5 facedown, then stack the rest facedown by the board

Select destination tickets

Each player keeps 2-5 destination ticket cards and returns the others, removing returned cards from the game

Determine first player

On Your Turn

What you can do during your turn.

Choose one action

On each turn, perform exactly one of three actions: draw train cards, claim a route, or draw destination tickets

Mandatory action

You must perform an action; if no train cards are available to draw, you must choose a different action

Draw twice

Take the top card of the train deck or take a face-up card and replace it from the deck, doing this twice

See before deciding

You may see the new face-up card before deciding where to take your second card from

Reshuffle when empty

When the deck is exhausted, shuffle the discards thoroughly

Regular route

Play train cards matching the color and length (one card per space) of an empty route

Double routes

Claim either side; no player may have both sides

Place trains and score

Fill the route with your train cars and discard played cards; score 1/2/4/7/10/15/27 points for routes of 1/2/3/4/5/6/9 spaces

Ferry route

For each locomotive space, play 1 locomotive or any 3 cards; for other spaces, play 1 matching color, 1 locomotive, or any 3 cards

Tunnel route

Play any mix of locomotives and matching color cards, then reveal 3 cards from the deck

Murmansk-Lieska route

You may play any 4 cards (including locomotives) as 1 matching color card, repeatedly

Draw and keep

Draw 3 destination ticket cards and keep 1-3 of them

Remove unkept cards

Remove unkept cards from the game

Fewer available

If fewer than 3 cards remain, draw all that are available

Winning

How to claim victory.

Trigger game end

When a player has 2 or fewer train cars left, each player (including that player) takes one final turn

Verify route scores

Recount completed route scores to correct errors and omissions

Score destination tickets

Add points for each completed destination ticket (cities connected by your train cars) or subtract points for incomplete tickets

Award Globetrotter bonus

The player who completed the most destination tickets receives the Globetrotter card and 10 points

Determine the winner

The player with the most points wins

Break ties

First tiebreaker is most completed destination tickets, then longest route
