Players manage a tavern in Tiefenthal, attracting wealthy patrons to fund expansions that draw nobles. Success requires strategic dice selection and efficient deck-building to maximize profits. The modular design offers five complexity levels for gradual learning. Victory comes from skillfully balancing immediate income with long-term tavern improvements to create the most prosperous establishment.

Get Ready

Setup the game with these step-by-step instructions before diving into your turn.

Prepare monastery board
Place the monastery board summer side (without snow) facing up

Position schnapps tokens
Place schnapps tokens in three slots on the monastery board with schnapps side facing down

Assemble moon marker
Construct the moon (round marker) and place it above the first space on the round track at the top of the monastery board

Set aside bar customers
Take 3 bar customers per player and place them near the monastery board, returning remaining bar customers to the box

Remove bard cards
Remove 16 tavern cards with the white die symbol (bards) as they are used in Module 3

Sort tavern cards
Separate remaining tavern cards into stacks by type (innkeeper's assistants, dishwashers, waitresses, tables, brewers) and arrange by ascending taler cost

Prepare guest cards
Remove 10 guest cards with white die symbols, set aside 8 guests costing 3 beer face-up, shuffle remaining guests face-down to the left

Display guest cards
Draw 4 cards from the guest deck and place them face-up in a row to the right of the 3-beer guests

Position aristocrat cards
Place the aristocrat deck face-up to the right of other guest cards

Distribute tavern boards
Each player takes a tavern board and 10 equipment tokens (tables, waitress, cash register, monk, dishwasher, safe, innkeeper, barrel, brewer, beer storage)

Place equipment tokens
Position tokens in corresponding areas with taler costs visible in upper left corners

Set innkeeper token
Place innkeeper token with victory points side down, small signature token face-down

Place resource markers
Each player places yellow safe marker and brown beer storage marker on space 0 of their respective tracks

Distribute beer coasters
Each player takes a beer coaster and places it in front of them

Distribute white dice
Each player receives 4 white dice placed on their beer coaster

Prepare colored dice
Place dice matching player colors in a common supply accessible to all

Build starting deck
Each player assembles a starting deck with 7 regular cards (matching their color), 1 waitress, 1 table, and 1 brewer from common supply

Shuffle starting deck
Players shuffle their starting decks and place them face-down next to their tavern boards
19
Place monastery markers
Each player takes a monastery marker of their color and places it on space 0 of the monastery track
20
Determine first player
The person who most recently visited a drinking establishment becomes first player and receives the beer mug marker
21
Return unused components
Return all remaining components to the box as they are not needed for the base game

On Your Turn

What you can do during your turn.

Phase A - New Evening
First player moves the moon to the next space on the round track, all players receive bonuses shown on that space

Phase B - Guest Arrival
Draw cards from personal deck and place them in corresponding tavern areas until all tables are filled
3
Phase C - Waitress Dice
Take 1 die of your color from common supply for each waitress card drawn, roll it, and place below your tavern board
4
Phase D - Dice Draft
All players simultaneously roll their 4 white dice on beer coasters
5
Phase E - Action Planning
Place dice on action spaces following placement rules

Phase F - Serve Guests
Execute planned actions in turn order starting with first player

Spend Talers
Purchase tavern cards from supply and place on top of personal deck
8
Upgrade Tavern
Pay talers to flip equipment tokens to upgraded side
9
Spend Beer
Purchase 1 guest card per round from display and place on top of personal deck
10
Acquire Aristocrats
Pay 9 beer for 1 aristocrat, 14 for 2, or 18 for 3, placing them on personal deck
11
Save Resources
Store up to 2 talers in safe and 2 beer in storage (5 each if upgraded)
12
Return Dice
Place unused white dice on beer coaster, return colored dice to supply
13
Phase G - Closing Time
All players collect cards played this round and place them face-up in their discard pile

Winning

How to claim victory.

1
Game Duration
The game ends after completing 8 rounds when the moon reaches the final space on the round track
2
Count Victory Points
Each player totals victory points shown in the upper right corner of all their cards in personal deck and discard pile
3
Determine Winner
The player with the most victory points wins
4
Tiebreaker
In case of a tie, the player with the higher combined total of saved talers and beer wins
5
Multiple Winners
If still tied after tiebreaker, all tied players share victory
