Using uniquely-sized wooden pieces, characters move freely across a dynamic board that evolves throughout each scenario. Players must complete story-driven missions while evading Prince John's guards, with their choices affecting the narrative told through an accompanying hardcover book.

Get Ready

Setup the game with these step-by-step instructions before diving into your turn.

Assemble the game board
Take the 8 game board pieces horizontally out of the slipcase and join them together, ensuring no tiles fall out

Prepare wooden components
Lay all wooden parts out ready next to the game board in a pile without sorting

Choose characters
Each player selects one character and takes their 5 figures (2 stand figures and 3 playing figures - 2 medium and 1 long)

Place accessories
Lay the book and fabric bag out ready next to the game board

Set the coat of arms
Display "I" if playing the adventure for the first time, "II" if replaying

Position the bard
Place the bard figure on the designated number on the Hope Flag at the start of each adventure
7
Fill the bag
Place the colored discs into the cloth bag as indicated by the adventure

On Your Turn

What you can do during your turn.

Draw discs
Each round, players draw all discs one by one from the bag and place them on the wheel (bottom right of the board)

Movement phase
Line up your figures to move across the board

Obstacles
You cannot travel over trees, fields, houses, the castle, the river, the waterfall, objects, carts, animals, or people

Save energy
If you don't use your long figure during movement, drop 1 white cube into the bag

Perform one action
Choose one of three possible actions based on your position

Visit action
If touching a square with a question mark, read the corresponding page number in the book
7
Defeat action
Touch an opponent's square to attempt defeat (unless using the arrow for guards)
8
Special opponents
Some require drawing more than 1 white cube in a single turn to defeat
9
Arrow combat
If you have the arrow, place it on your figure to defeat guards from a distance
10
Transfer objects action
If touching another player's figure, exchange any number of objects
11
Jump on tree bridges
Jump from bridge to bridge, bridge to forest floor, or forest floor to bridge

Steal a cart
Defeat the cart driver by drawing 2 white cubes in one turn

Monitor the Hope Flag
The bard figure tracks hope level throughout the adventure

Avoid the Bad Ending
If no hourglasses remain on the Bad Ending space, players immediately lose and must read page 213

Complete adventure objectives
Follow the book's instructions to accomplish each adventure's specific goals

Track progress with ribbons
Use the two book ribbons to mark continuation pages between sessions
5
Replay considerations
When replaying, read text marked with "II" instead of "I"
