Get Ready

Setup the game with these step-by-step instructions before diving into your turn.

1
Choose character cards
Each player selects a Character card and adds it to their hand, reading the backstory on the back
2
Take player components
Each player takes the figurine representing their character and a fire figurine
3
Place Satchel & Journal
Position the "Satchel & Journal" card face up in front of players
4
Select difficulty mode
Optionally take card 777 for "easy" mode or card 650 for "hardcore" mode
5
Distribute dice
Each player receives dice based on player count: 4 dice for solo, 3 for 2 players, 2 for 3-4 players
6
Choose Clue cards
Select one or more Clue cards and place them under the "Satchel & Journal" card, returning unchosen Clue cards to the box
7
Build the Action Deck
Shuffle together: 35 common Skill cards, 5 character-specific Skill cards for each participating character, Curse cards matching chosen Clues, and 4 "Death is lurking!" Curse cards
8
Set up Discard Pile holder
Assemble the stand and place it next to the Action Deck
9
Organize Exploration cards
Sort by zone (I, II, III, IV, etc.), shuffle each stack, and place behind dividers with foggy side facing players
10
Organize Adventure cards
Sort green and gold numbered cards in ascending order with card 000 on top, using dividers (050, 100, etc.)
11
Place starting Terrain card
Take the Adventure card indicated on your chosen Clue card, read the backstory, and place it to form the Board
12
Position character figurines
Place all participating character figurines on the starting Terrain card
13
Add Exploration cards
Place an Exploration card (foggy side up) beside each arrow visible on the starting Terrain card, matching the Roman numeral zone

On Your Turn

What you can do during your turn.

1
Select active player
Players collectively choose who becomes the "active player" for the turn; if no agreement, player to the left of the previous active player takes the role
2
Check for participating characters
Any player whose figurine is on the same Terrain card may participate in the action if the active player agrees
3
Choose an action
The active player selects one action (white square icon) visible on: the Terrain card, attached Exploration card, attached Permanent Event, Temporary Event just revealed, cards in hand, Item cards in inventory, or Quest Item cards
4
Use items (Step 1)
Participating players may use items from inventory by reducing the die value by 1 on each used item, applying effects matching the current action type
5
Determine cost (Step 2a)
Calculate the action cost starting with the default number shown in the blue diamond, applying reductions from cards in hand, inventory items, Permanent Events, or Quest Items
6
Adjust difficulty for cooperation
If multiple players participate, they may reduce cards drawn while increasing required successes by the same amount (not available with lock icon)
7
Draw Action cards (Step 2b)
Active player draws cards equal to the final cost, placing them face down; additional cards may be drawn to increase success chances unless the action has a lock icon
8
Reveal results (Step 3)
Active player reveals all drawn cards and counts successes from full gold stars and matching half-stars; participants may apply effects to gain additional successes
9
Handle Curse cards
If a Curse card is revealed from the Discard Pile while the Action Deck is empty, players immediately lose
10
Keep a Skill card (Step 4)
Active player may choose one revealed Skill card to add to their hand or give to a participating player
11
Discard remaining cards (Step 5)
Place all remaining drawn cards and destroyed items on the Discard Pile or Past
12
Apply consequences (Step 6)
Apply effects from the white section for success or black section for failure
13
Take paranoid state
If a cooperative action fails, the active player must take card 100 (paranoid state)
14
Check hand limit (Step 7)
Each participating player with excess Skill or Bonus cards must discard down to the limit shown on "Satchel & Journal"
15
Move to another Terrain
Execute movement actions to move all participating figurines to an accessible Terrain card connected by an unbroken chain of Terrain cards
16
Explore the continent
When an Exploration card is resolved and discarded, replace it with the corresponding Adventure card indicated by the arrow on the Terrain card
17
Place new Exploration cards
When a Terrain card enters play, place Exploration cards (foggy side up) at each free adjacent edge indicated by arrows, matching the Roman numeral zone
18
Craft items
Use crafting actions on Skill cards to create Item cards, reducing cost when resources shown on the Terrain card are available
19
Combine items
After finding or crafting an Item, combine it with existing items in inventory (respecting player-count limits), adding durability if they share keywords
20
Transfer items
Players on the same Terrain card may exchange complete items by discarding 2 cards from the Action Deck per transfer
21
Save the game
When all figurines are on the same Terrain card and no action is in progress, discard all Board cards to Past and stack remaining cards behind the "Save" divider

Winning

How to claim victory.

1
Break all curses
The game ends in victory when players overcome every curse they selected at the start of the game
2
Game notification
The game will clearly indicate when all curses have been broken
3
Lose by empty deck
Players immediately lose if a Curse card is revealed from the Discard Pile while the Action Deck is already empty
4
Lose by elimination
Players lose if an action effect eliminates all characters with the "Your adventure is over" state
5

When losing, return all banished cards to their decks and start a new game from the beginning
