Roll Player

In Roll Player, you compete to create the ultimate fantasy hero by rolling and drafting dice to build character attributes. Purchase equipment, learn skills, and develop traits to craft your adventurer. Victory goes to the player who earns the most Reputation Stars by constructing the most well-prepared character for epic quests.

Get Ready

Setup the game with these step-by-step instructions before diving into your turn.

Determine start player
Each player rolls 1 die; highest roll gains the Start Player Token

Prepare dice bag
Place all Attribute and Boost Dice inside the bag

Distribute player components
Each player receives 1 Character Sheet (side of choice), 5 Gold, 1 Backstory card, 1 Alignment card, 1 XP Cost Summary card, and 1 Updated Player Aid card

Adjust starting gold
The 3rd player gains 1 extra Gold; the 4th player gains 2 extra Gold; with 5 players, no one gains additional Gold

Select class
In turn order, each player draws 1 die from the bag (redraw if repeat colour, Yellow, or Boost Die) and takes the matching Class card on a side of their choice

Place markers
Take 2 markers of matching colour; place 1 on your Class card and 1 in the centre of the Alignment card

Prepare market decks
Shuffle 1-dot and 2-dot Market Decks separately; remove cards based on player count (2 players: -18, 3 players: -14, 4 players: -12, 5 players: -7)

Create market deck
Stack 1-dot cards on top of 2-dot cards

Set up market display
Draw cards equal to number of players +2 to create face-up Market Display

Arrange initiative cards
Lay out correct Initiative cards based on player count; place 1 Gold on cards showing Gold in corner

Draw starting dice
Starting with 1st player, all players draw and roll starting dice (2 players: 6, 3 players: 7, 4-5 players: 8)

Place starting dice
Arrange dice in Attribute rows left to right; no actions taken; earn 1 Gold for filling a row with 3 dice; earn 2 Gold for Yellow dice

Select monster
From 2P+ Deck, remove monsters matching player class colours; pick 1 remaining Monster

Prepare adventure cards
Randomly select 1 face-down Location, Obstacle, and Attack card for chosen Monster

Create minion deck
Stack 1-dot cards on top of 2-dot cards; discard top 7 cards; flip top Minion card face-up

On Your Turn

What you can do during your turn.

Roll initiative dice
Start player rolls dice equal to number of Initiative cards in play

Place dice on initiative
Place dice on Initiative cards in ascending order

Resolve duplicates
Start player chooses which duplicate die goes before others of same number

Select initiative card
In clockwise order, players choose 1 Initiative card taking its die and Gold (if any)

Place die
Put die in any leftmost Attribute slot

Take attribute action
You may take the Attribute Action for that row

Collect bonuses
Take 1 Gold if 3rd slot filled; take 2 Gold if die is Yellow

Take turn in initiative order
From low to high, each player chooses one option:

Discard charisma
Remove all Charisma Tokens

Refresh skills
Each player turns 1 Skill card upright

Reset components
Return Initiative cards and remaining dice to bag

Reset market
Discard remaining Market cards; draw new display

Replenish gold
Place Gold on Initiative cards that show Gold icon

Pass start player
Give Start Player Token to left; begin new round

Reroll combat die
Spend 1 XP to reroll any 1 Combat Die

Remove injury
Spend 2 XP to discard an Injury Token during Creation Phase

Hire mercenary
Spend 3 XP for 1 extra Combat Die

Extra action
Spend 4 XP to take any Attribute Action during Character Creation

Resolve adventure cards
Players with corresponding Tokens gain benefits; ties are friendly

Hire mercenaries
Pay 3 XP or 5 Gold/Charisma Tokens for extra Combat Dice

Roll and modify
Roll all Combat Dice; spend 1 XP per reroll; add +1 per Honour Token; subtract 1 per Injury Token; declare "Final Dice"

Determine success
Meet or exceed Monster's Health to earn Star points shown on card

Score attribute rows
Add dice numbers with modifiers; earn Stars for each row goal met

Score class colour
Earn 1 Star per die matching your Class colour
9
Score alignment
Earn Stars based on Alignment marker position
10
Score backstory
Earn Stars for dice in correct slots
11
Score armour sets
Earn Stars for complete armour sets plus card bonuses
12
Score trait cards
Earn Stars as shown on cards
13
Determine winner
Player with most Stars wins
14
Break ties
Most Gold wins ties; then fewest dice in Class colour
