Not Alone

2-7 players 30-45 min 7.0 Board Game Geek Rating

In this asymmetrical card game, shipwrecked 25th-century explorers must survive on alien planet Artemia while one player controls a hunting creature. Explorers use Place and Survival cards to evade capture through bluffing and hand management. The creature employs Hunt cards and planetary powers to track and assimilate survivors. Victory requires either surviving until rescue or achieving complete assimilation.

Get Ready

Setup the game with these step-by-step instructions before diving into your turn.

1
Follow base game setup
Use the same instructions as in a game for 2 players, with the modifications below
2
Create the Persecution Deck
Separate a complete set of Place cards for the creature to form its Persecution Deck
3
Remove higher numbered places
From the Persecution Deck, temporarily remove places 6 to 10
4
Shuffle the starting deck
Shuffle the remaining Persecution Deck containing only places 1-5, matching the cards you start with
5
Exclude Chase cards
The creature does not take the 3 Chase cards

On Your Turn

What you can do during your turn.

1
Play exploration normally
The Exploration phase is played the same as the standard 2-player game
2
Determine creature's location
Draw a card from the Persecution Deck and set the creature's marker in that place, then return the card to the deck and shuffle
3
Draw a Chase card
If the Chase card contains a Target or Artemia symbol, draw from the Persecution Deck and place the corresponding counter on that location
4
Place Artemia marker if needed
If the rescue counter is in a box with the Artemia sign and the Artemia marker is not in play, draw from the Persecution Deck and place the Artemia marker there, then return and shuffle
5
Apply adjacency rules
Two locations are considered adjacent ONLY if they belong to the same column
6
Add new place cards
If the Hunted player obtains a new place card, also add the corresponding card to the Persecution Deck
7
Recover discarded cards
If the Hunted player recovers cards from the discard pile, also return them from the discard pile of the Persecution Deck
8
Discard played cards
Discard the played Hunted Card and discard the same place card from the Persecution Deck, provided you have not recovered it
9
Observe the Golden Rule
The Persecution Deck at the beginning of the Exploration phase must ALWAYS have the same cards that the Hunted have in their hand

Winning

How to claim victory.

1
Standard victory conditions apply
Follow the same victory conditions as the standard 2-player game to determine if the Hunted player wins or if the creature successfully assimilates the Hunted
