Nexus Ops

2-4 players 90-90 min 7.2 Board Game Geek Rating

In this sci-fi war game, rival corporations fight for lunar Rubium Ore control across a modular hex board. Players command diverse alien armies using Axis & Allies-style combat mechanics. Victory points are earned through battle wins and completing secret missions. Defeated players receive compensating Energize cards with special abilities, while controlling the central Monolith also grants these powerful cards.

Get Ready

Setup the game with these step-by-step instructions before diving into your turn.

1
Determine first player
Randomly select who plays first
2
Choose colors
Starting with the first player, each player chooses a color and takes the plastic unit pieces and player board for that color
3
Place the Monolith
Put the 3D Monolith in the middle of the table with the Monolith tile (red border face-up) inside it
4
Build the board
Shuffle the 6 single-hex tiles face down, then place them face up in a circle around the Monolith
5
Prepare card decks
Shuffle the Secret Mission deck and the Energize deck and put them face down near the playing area
6
Place exploration tokens
Randomly place 1 Exploration tile face down on each of the 18 hex spaces surrounding the Monolith, excluding home bases
7
Set up supplies
Put the dice near the playing area and put rubium gems in a pile (the bank) next to the board
8
Receive starting rubium
The first player gets 8 rubium; each player to the left gets 3 more than the previous player

8
Use special movement abilities

Flip face-up any Exploration token where your unit ended movement
11
Gain discovered units
If the token shows a unit, take that unit from your supply and place it on that space

18
Roll attacks simultaneously
Both attacker and defender roll for all units of the current type at the same time
19
Assign casualties
For each successful hit, the opponent chooses one of their units to remove from the space
20
End the battle round
After all unit types have attacked, the battle ends for this turn even if both players have units remaining
21

You win if you eliminate all defender's units; you lose if all your units are destroyed
22
Collect mine income
For each space you control with a mine, gain rubium equal to the mine's number
