In this competitive legacy experience, players build evolving cities across 24 episodes spanning pre-industrial to industrial eras. Each session's decisions permanently modify personal boards and add new cards, creating customized gameplay that carries forward. Choices shape future sessions in this personalized city-building journey. A reversible board enables repeatable play after completing four episodes.

Get Ready

Setup the game with these step-by-step instructions before diving into your turn.

Place first piece

Position your first piece next to the river

Set initial score

Each player begins with an initial score of 10 points

Add blocking card (Eternal Game)

Include the block card in the deck, which causes the next piece pulled to be skipped

Add church components (Eternal Game)

Include church pieces and cards in the game

Position palace (The Palace variant)

Place the palace on space E6, which counts as 1 red building

Set starting position (The Sawmill variant)

Your first piece must touch space H11 or I11

Start at zero (Railroad variant)

Begin with 0 points instead of the standard starting score

On Your Turn

What you can do during your turn.

Build a piece

Place a building piece on a valid space on the board

Pass on a piece

Choose not to build the current piece and lose 1 point if you continue playing

Build all pieces (Money to Burn)

You must build every piece drawn or forfeit the rest of the game

Build on restricted areas

Certain variants allow building on normally blocked terrain

Place churches (Eternal Game)

All churches must be built when drawn - this is instantaneous and mandatory

Track your investor (The Investors)

Place your investor token on each new building you construct

Score railroad points immediately (Railroad)

Gain +1 point instantly for every building placed next to the bottom row railroad

Winning

How to claim victory.

Calculate largest groups

For each color, score points equal to the number of buildings in your largest connected group

Score tree bonuses

Gain +2 points for each visible space containing two trees

Deduct rock penalties

Lose 2 points for each visible space containing two rocks

Deduct empty space penalties

Lose 1 point for each empty light green space remaining

Note neutral spaces

Well and gold spaces are neutral and worth -1 point

Score gold rush bonus

First player to build on both gold veins (A8 & K1) earns +3 points

Score church diversity

Earn +3 points for having three different colors adjacent to the church

Score well adjacency

Earn +4 points for having four buildings next to the well (G7)

Score park enclosures (The Parks)

Gain +2 points for surrounding a green space on all four sides, +3 points for surrounding a pair of rocks on all four sides

Score factory bonus (Factories)

Earn +2 points for every group of blue buildings containing a factory gear

Score prosperity bonus

Earn +1 point per yellow building adjacent to one or more trees

Score forest completion (Forest Construction)

Earn +10 points if you cover the entire forest area

Deduct mountain penalty (Mountain Climbing)

Lose 2 points for each exposed mountain space

Score mining bonuses

Earn +1 point for each building grouped with the mine matching its assigned color

Score railroad completion (First Railroad)

First player to cover all spots next to the railroad earns +3 points

Score port connection (Port to Railroad)

First player to connect Port (F3) to railroad in one color earns +3 points
