King of Tokyo

2-6 players 30-30 min 7.1 Board Game Geek Rating

Players control monsters battling for Tokyo's domination through dice-rolling combat. Each turn involves rolling six dice up to three times, selecting combinations for victory points, energy, healing, or attacks. Occupying Tokyo grants bonus points but prevents healing and attracts enemy fire. Victory comes from reaching 20 points or eliminating all opponents.

Get Ready

Setup the game with these step-by-step instructions before diving into your turn.

1

Choose your monster

Each player selects a monster and takes its corresponding monster mat

Set starting values

Set your monster to 10 health and zero victory points (VP)

Prepare the deck

Shuffle all cards face down to create a draw deck

4

Create the shop

Reveal 3 cards face up to form the shop offer

5

Determine first player

All players roll dice until one player gets more claws than the others; that player goes first

On Your Turn

What you can do during your turn.

Roll dice

Throw the 6 black dice

2

Reroll dice

You may reroll any or all dice up to 2 additional times

3

Collect energy

Gain energy cubes equal to the number of energy (⚡) results in your roll

Score numbers

If you rolled 3 matching number results, gain that number in VPs, plus 1 additional VP for each extra die showing that same number

5

Gain Tokyo bonus

You get 2 VPs if you are currently in Tokyo or Tokyo Bay

Deal claw damage

Resolve attack damage based on your location:

Yield option

Any monster just wounded by claw dice may choose to yield, leaving Tokyo or Tokyo Bay

Enter Tokyo

If Tokyo is empty (or Tokyo Bay with 5-6 players remaining) and you rolled any claw result, your monster must occupy it and gain 1 VP

9

Tokyo Bay restriction

If 4 or fewer players remain, any monster in Tokyo Bay must leave it

10

Restore health

If you are NOT in Tokyo or Tokyo Bay, restore health points equal to heart (♥) results, not exceeding 10 HP

11

Buy cards

Purchase cards from the shop offer by spending energy cubes

12

End turn

The next player's turn begins

Accumulate victory points through rolling matching numbers, occupying Tokyo, entering Tokyo, and card effects

Elimination

Reduce opponents to zero health to eliminate them from the game
