HITSTER challenges players to arrange music hits from over 100 years in chronological order. Scan QR codes to play songs through Spotify, then place cards correctly on your timeline. First player collecting 10 cards wins. Features 300+ songs with simple rules requiring no music expertise—just guess release order relative to your existing timeline.

Get Ready

Setup the game with these step-by-step instructions before diving into your turn.

Choose play mode
Decide if you're playing in teams or individually

Distribute starting tokens
Each player/team receives 2 HITSTER tokens

Deal starting card
Each player/team receives 1 music card placed face up (date side up) in front of them to start their timeline
4
Select the DJ
Choose a player to be the first DJ who will scan cards; players take turns being DJ throughout the game
5
Note DJ participation
The DJ can play along when using HITSTER with a Spotify Premium account

On Your Turn

What you can do during your turn.

1
Scan the card
The DJ scans a card using the HITSTER app and follows on-screen instructions to play a song
2
Position the card
The player to the left of the DJ places the card face down (without peeking) in the correct spot on their timeline, with oldest songs on the left

Flip to reveal
Turn over the card to check if placement is correct
4
Handle same-year cards
Cards from the same year can be placed in either order
5
Earn tokens by identification
Correctly name both the song's title and artist's name to earn 1 HITSTER token (even if you misplace the card)
6
Observe token limit
No player can hold more than 5 tokens at any time
7
Skip with token
Pay 1 HITSTER token to discard the current card and scan a new song if you don't know it
8
Challenge opponents
Shout "HITSTER" before a card is revealed if you think an opponent placed it incorrectly
9
Trade for cards
Trade 3 HITSTER tokens anytime to take the top card from the deck and add it to your timeline without guessing

Winning

How to claim victory.

Reach ten cards
The first player to have 10 cards correctly positioned in their timeline wins
2
Claim the title
The winner earns the title of HITSTER
