Wingspan: Asia features Asian birds in a point-scoring game where players build habitats, play bird cards, complete objectives, and lay eggs. Functions as standalone game supporting 2-7 players with new duet and flock modes, or as expansion adding cards to base Wingspan. Victory goes to whoever accumulates the most points through strategic bird placement and habitat management.

Get Ready

Setup the game with these step-by-step instructions before diving into your turn.

Prepare the Duel Mode card

Place the duel card in the center showing the grid of fields with various symbols for habitats, nest types, food types, and bonuses

Set up the birdfeeder

Fill the birdfeeder with all 5 food dice by rolling them into the birdhouse

Prepare the bird tray

Draw and display face-up bird cards in the bird tray (Vogeltränke)

Distribute starting resources

Each player receives their starting birds, food tokens, and bonus cards according to standard Wingspan rules

Select round goals

Choose round goal tiles for the duel mode that relate to duel markers on the duel card

Separate bonus cards

Keep the 3 name-based bonus cards (Photographer, Geographer, Morphologist) separate and only use them when playing exclusively with the Asia expansion

On Your Turn

What you can do during your turn.

Choose one of four actions

Select from: gain food, lay eggs, draw bird cards, or play a bird card to your tableau

Place duel markers

When playing birds, place your colored duel marker on the corresponding field of the duel card matching the bird's characteristics

Activate bird abilities

Move through your habitat row from right to left, activating brown "when activated" powers on each bird

Resolve "between turns" powers

React to opponents' actions with pink powers marked "1x between your turns"

Execute food-gaining abilities

When gaining food from the birdfeeder, remove dice and take matching food tokens; when all dice show the same face, you may reroll all dice

Store food on birds

Some birds allow caching food tokens on them for end-game points; cached food cannot be spent

Form flocks

Tuck cards from your hand under birds with the flock symbol to score 1 point per tucked card

Hunt and fish

Roll dice to attempt catching prey; successful rolls allow storing rodent or fish tokens on predator birds

Copy abilities

Certain birds can copy white "when played" or brown "when activated" abilities from neighbors' birds

Resolve end-of-round abilities

At round end, activate all pink "end of round" powers before scoring round goals

Winning

How to claim victory.

Score round goals

Count duel markers on the duel card according to each round's specific goal (pairs with matching symbols, nest symbols, food symbols, horizontal rows, edge positions, habitat areas, or bonus fields)

Calculate bird points

Add the face value points printed on each bird card in your tableau

Count eggs

Score 1 point for each egg on your birds

Tally cached food

Each food token stored on bird cards scores 1 point

Score tucked cards

Each card tucked under birds for flocking scores 1 point

Evaluate bonus cards

Score points from all bonus cards based on birds matching their criteria

Determine beak direction

For goals involving beak direction, birds facing directly forward or upward count as neither left nor right; specific exceptions are listed in the appendix

Handle full nests

For the Bird Breeder bonus card, count birds whose egg limit is completely filled; birds with zero egg limit do not qualify

Win with fewest markers

For the "Fewest Duel Markers on Bonus Fields" goal, the player with fewer markers on the 9 bonus fields wins that round's points

Resolve tied habitats

When counting markers in forest, grassland, or wetland areas, the count may differ from birds on your tableau if birds moved during play

Total all points

The player with the highest combined score wins the game
