Schotten Totten

2-2 players 20-20 min 7.4 Board Game Geek Rating

Players compete for nine boundary stones by creating three-card poker-style formations on each side. The strongest formation claims each stone. Victory requires capturing five total stones or three consecutive ones. A strategic element allows claiming stones early by proving opponents cannot possibly win them, adding tactical depth beyond simple card play.

Setup the game with these step-by-step instructions before diving into your turn.

Place the 9 Stone Tiles in a line between the players

Shuffle the 54 Clan Cards (6 suits, values 1-9)

Deal 6 Clan Cards to each player
4
First player is whoever last visited Scotland

Tactics Variant:
Deal 7 Clan Cards instead of 6; place the 10 Tactic Cards as a separate deck

On Your Turn

What you can do during your turn.

1. Play a Card:
Play a card from your hand on your side of any unclaimed stone where you have fewer than 3 cards

2. Claim Stones:

3. Draw a Card:
Draw one card from the deck (skip if deck is empty)

If no stone is available to play to, you must pass

Set Rankings (strongest to weakest):

Ties broken by highest sum; if still tied, player who played their third card first wins

Runs do not have to be played in order

Tactics Variant:
May play Tactic cards only if you haven't played more Tactics than your opponent; may draw from either deck

Expert Variant:
Turn order is Claim → Play → Draw

Multiple Rounds:
Winner gains 5 points; loser gains 1 point per stone they claimed
