Bärenpark

2-4 players 30-45 min 7.3 Board Game Geek Rating

In Bärenpark, players construct bear parks using polyomino tiles on a grid. Build animal enclosures, food stands, and other attractions while maximizing space efficiency. Cover icons to acquire new tiles and expand your park sections. Score points for completed constructions, animal houses, and outdoor areas. The game ends when someone finishes their park expansion, with the highest scorer winning.

Get Ready

Setup the game with these step-by-step instructions before diving into your turn.

Place main board
Put the 3-fold game board on the table

Arrange Enclosure tiles
Place all 12 Enclosure tiles on the two rightmost panels

Place Playground and Toilet tiles
Put all 10 Playground and Toilet tiles on the top left panel

Add remaining tiles by player count
Place Food Streets, Rivers, and Animal Houses on the leftmost panel

Stack Animal Houses
Arrange Animal House tiles with lowest value on top, highest at bottom

Arrange Bear Statues
Place Bear Statue tiles in ascending order below the game board

Prepare Park Areas
Place Park Areas without an entrance in 2 piles of 6

Distribute starting Park Areas
Each player takes a Park Area with an entrance, placed with entrance nearest them

Select Achievement tiles (Variant)
Choose 3 of 9 Achievement types and stack each type with highest value on top; remove lowest value tile in 2-player games
10
Distribute starting tiles
Give each player their starting tile based on player order

On Your Turn

What you can do during your turn.

Place a tile
Put one tile from your supply into your park following placement rules

Evaluate covered icons
Gain new tiles based on icons you covered

Place a Bear Statue
When you fill all spaces on a Park Area except the pit, place the highest valued Bear Statue tile on the pit
4
Claim an Achievement (Variant)
If you meet an Achievement's requirement, take the top token from that stack
5
Pass if unable to place
If you cannot legally place any tile from your supply, you must pass

Winning

How to claim victory.

1
Trigger game end
When any player completely fills all four of their Park Areas, the end game begins
2
Complete final round
Each other player gets one more turn after the game is triggered
3
Calculate final score
Add up all points shown on tiles in your Park Areas
4
Add Achievement points (Variant)
Include the value of any Achievement tokens you claimed
5
Determine winner
The player with the highest total score wins
